Privacy
This site collects your email address if you join the list, ask for the field guide or use Contour, what you write if you invite me to speak, the job you describe in Contour, and a count of visits to each page. How you use the site in any detail is recorded only if you say yes.
Who is responsible
Me, Meagan Angelucci. Write to writing@meaganangelucci.com about anything on this page.
The list
When you join the list, your email address goes to Loops, the service that sends the list's emails. It is recorded with where you signed up. I use it to send you the essays and news of the book, and for nothing else. I do not sell it, rent it or give it to anyone. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing works straight away.
The emails carry no tracking pixel, so I do not know whether you opened one. Loops does record which links in an email you click, so I can see which pieces readers go on to read.
The field guide
When you ask for the field guide, your email address goes to Loops and joins the list, recorded as coming from the guide. You get the download straight away, then the list's emails, each with an unsubscribe link. The download link is made for you and stops working after a day.
Contour
When you describe a role in Contour, the job title and description are sent to Anthropic, the company that makes Claude, so it can draft the role’s tasks. Nothing else you enter is sent: your edits, your choices and the map itself are worked out in your browser. Anthropic’s terms do not let it train its models on what the site sends, and it keeps the request only for a limited time to run and protect its service. I do not keep the description, the tasks or the map anywhere. Reloading the page clears them.
Describe the job, not a person. Please leave out names, and anything about anyone’s health.
To stop the drafting being overused, Vercel limits how often drafts can be asked for from one connection, using the request records described below.
Contour asks for your email address before it drafts. Your address goes to Loops and joins the list, recorded as coming from Contour, and Loops also records that you have had your free draft, so the free draft is one per address. You then get the list’s emails, each with an unsubscribe link. When you make your map’s PDF, the map is sent only to make it; the PDF comes straight back to you, and the map is not kept.
If you allow analytics, three things are counted: that you visited Contour, that you finished a map, and that you downloaded it. What you typed is never counted.
Buying Contour
Payment is taken by Stripe; your card details and billing address go to Stripe and never reach this site. Stripe uses the address to work out GST or HST. When you buy, the site keeps your email address, the option you bought, your Contour code and how many roles are left, in a database hosted in Canada by Supabase. With a team pack or an organization licence, each map you finish is saved under your code so you can come back to it: the job title, the hours, the tasks and your notes on where the time goes. Anyone with the code can see them. Codes and saved maps are deleted 90 days after the code expires.
An invitation
When you use the form on the about page, your name, email address, organisation and message are sent to me as an email at writing@meaganangelucci.com. Your address is also saved in Loops as a contact. Writing to me does not put you on the list. You will not get the essays unless you join yourself.
Analytics and cookies
Every visit is counted by Vercel, the site's host, without asking: which page was read, where the visitor came from, and their country, device and browser. It sets no cookie, does not keep your IP address, and cannot recognise you from one day to the next. Vercel also measures how quickly each page loads. I use these counts to see what is read.
The first time you visit, the site also asks whether you allow PostHog. If you say no, PostHog records nothing and no analytics cookie is set.
If you say yes, the site uses PostHog to see how the site is used: which pages are read and how far, where visitors arrive from, what is clicked, and, in recordings of a visit, how the page was used. Recordings hide anything typed into a form. PostHog sets a cookie so it can recognise a returning visitor. I use this to learn what is worth writing and building, and for nothing else. It is not used for advertising, and I do not sell it.
The site remembers your answer in your own browser, so it does not ask on every page. You can change it at any time.
The free instruments
The free instruments run entirely in your browser. If you allow analytics, three things are counted: that you visited the page, that you finished the instrument, and that you copied what it returned. Your answers are never saved or sent anywhere, and reloading the page clears them.
What your browser fetches from others
- The typefaces come from Adobe Fonts. Their licence does not allow me to host the files myself, so your browser fetches them from Adobe. Adobe receives your IP address and the page you are reading, as any server does. Adobe's own privacy policy covers what it does with that.
- The site is hosted by Vercel. Like every host, Vercel keeps records of requests, including IP addresses, to run the service and protect it.
Where it is kept
Loops, Vercel, Adobe, PostHog, Anthropic, Stripe and Supabase are United States companies. PostHog keeps this site's analytics in the United States; Supabase keeps Contour's codes and saved maps in Canada. What the others hold may be stored and processed outside Canada, and is subject to the laws there.
How long
Your address stays until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete it. Unsubscribing stops the email. To have your address removed entirely, write to me and I will delete it.
What you can ask
You can ask what I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. Write to writing@meaganangelucci.com and I will answer within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with my answer, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, at priv.gc.ca.
Changes
If this page changes, the date at the top changes with it.
